This large romantic landscape has all the classic details of the English Norwich School – a house and windmill, a fisherman and boatmen, and a cow and sheep in aa boat.

John Crome (old Crome) was the founder of the Norwich School of painting, inspired by both the Norfolk countryside and by the Dutch masters. His paintings survive in many forms because, as a professional drawing master, he encouraged his pupils to copy his own work.
