Oil on canvas,  unsigned, 20″ x 24 inches.

$2,750

The ship is identified as the Huntly which sailed from Oban, Scotland, on December 13, 1839 with passengers emigrating to Australia. Typhoid broke out on board and when the ship reached Port Philip in 1840 , it was quarantined.

This ship portrait, with its unusual sea, is precisely drawn and painted in a fluid style in which  the paint flows and mixes.
