Although unsigned, the windmill in this painting is identical to another windmill in a 26″ x 37″ painting, signed by Chambers, which sold at Du Mouchelles in Detroit on July 28, 2023.
Chambers, who specialized in marine subjects, was a talented draftsman, watercolorist and painter in oils, with the fluent, romantic style characteristic of the Norwich School. Born in Yorkshire, we went to sea at the age of 10 and served many years on ships before his artistic talent was recognized and he could devote himself to art.
