This is an exact, but glamorous, study of a thoroughbred horse out at pasture.

The artist, William Gray, was a sculptor as well as a landscape artist and lived at Rye in the Isle of Wight. He exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy and British Institution.

Here he exhibits a mastery of anatomy and  flawlessly depicts both the strength and beauty of a racehorse.
